Have Fun And Be Safe With A Flashlight.

If you do not own a flashlight or have one in your home, you should really consider purchasing one. Flashlights can come in handy for many different tasks around the house. It can help your children have a better time playing or help you finish the project that you need.

When the kids go out to play a night time game of hide and seek in the neighbor’s yards, they will feel more secure and have a better time if they have a flashlight. They can change the rules to the game and make it so that if the beam of light from the flashlight hits you, you are out. It will also inform oncoming traffic that they are there and should be careful as they approach that area of the block.

Working on cars is a tricky task and it can be made more difficult if you have a flashlight. A mechanic can shine a flashlight down in to the engine compartment and give themselves a better idea of what is going on within the area. It can even help them to attach a part if they can get the angle in a position to help them see.

Severe weather can bring power outages to your area when you are least expecting it. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to find the flashlight in the dark. Dodging the obstacles like toys and animals in the dark can be tricky and it never fails that you hit your toes on something before you find the flashlight or candle.

Flashlights come in many different sizes. You can purchase a flashlight small enough to fit in your purse or pocket. They also put flashlights built in to a door key so you just push a button and your key hole is lit up for you. Flashlights also come in very large sizes. The size you purchase will ultimately depend on what you need it for.

Most flashlights run on battery power. There are some that have a rechargeable battery pack that you plug in until you are ready to use it. There are also flashlights that are designed so that you just have to shake the flashlight vigorously for a few minutes and the battery will recharge itself. Those are very handy if you are somewhere where there are no extra batteries or outlets to charge.

Flashlights come in a few different designs and are made out of different materials. You can purchase the flashlights that are made of plastic for fairly cheap. They are not very heavy and are easy to manage if you need to use them for a longer period of time.

The heavier flashlights are made of steel or metal. The security guards and construction workers tend to purchase the steel or metal flashlights the most. This is because in a construction field, flashlights being dropped and thrown are a common event. They are very sturdy and will not break as easily as a plastic flashlight would.

Flashlights come many sizes, big or small, heavy or light weight. There is a flashlight that would be perfect for any job that you may need one for. Because there are so many different sizes and weights you can be very selective about the flashlight that you choose.

Jim Carson used many kinds of flashlight and recommends the best flashlights to his readers. You can find reviews such as Neiko flashlight reviews, Petzl flashlight reviews, Sentina flashlight reviews and more in his blog.

Hiking Safety Essentials

Hiking and backcountry travel has increased in popularity over the past several years. All ages can easily participate and it is a great way to escape the challenges of city living. The exercise and fresh are added bonuses. And whether you are going out for one night or several, your enjoyment will be enhanced if your trip is organized and you are prepared for any challenge.

If you’re a seasoned camper you are probably well aware of the equipment required for your trip, however, few hikers think of self defense as a concern. Kidnapping, abductions, rapes, and violent assaults are common in nationwide media coverage and remind us of the credible threat and need for self defense products in the backcountry.

As you are packing, check your camping equipment and make sure that everything is in good order and you have included some personal defense products such as Defense Sprays, tasers, or stun guns.

Defense spray also referred to as OC or pepper spray is a very effective inflammatory agent that can easily irritate the eyes and result in pain, temporary blindness, and tears of any potential threat you may encounter either human or animal. Pepper spray is an organic based agent that comes from cayenne peppers. The spray will normally come in canister form, which his often times small enough to be carried in your pocket while hiking to your campsite.

Tasers are also effective defense tools. The new Taser C2 uses the same technologies used by top law enforcement officials. These products are extremely effective in fending off personal threats for up to a 15 foot distance.

Personal safety is an individual responsibility – even in the backcountry. Many hazards exist for the backpacker and hiker without consideration of personal safety, so being prepared is important. The ability to remain composed while under threat as well as the availability of a defense spray, taser or other tool is absolutely essential in dealing with a surprise threat.

In 1974, a mass grave was discovered in a Washington state forest. These were found to contain the remains of several missing women from Washington and neighboring states. The notorious Ted Bundy was later identified as the assailant. Bundy appeared harmless enough to his victims and none had effective means of defending themselves.

There are a variety of reasons for backcountry travel. Exercise, adventure and the love of nature are just a few. It is important to remember that crime and threats do not end when one leaves the city however. And being prepared for any eventuality – even in the backcountry – is essential to ensure one’s personal safety.

Officer Joe Davidson is a veteran law enforcement officer. He operates StunTech Products to provide citizens with the means and training to provide for their personal security at home and on the job. The Safety First Approach To Guns

If you like to watch the movies, or even too much television, you know things are going to get exciting when some character pulls out a gun. Weapons are cool to look at, make exciting loud noises, and really amp up the tension in a scene. In real life, however, guns do one thing really well, and one thing only.

In the real world the one thing that guns do is kill living creatures dead. That is why policemen carry them, so they can kill bad guys. That is why soldiers have them, in order to kill enemies. That is why hunters use them, so they can kill animals that are bigger than they are for meat.

If you are going to arm yourself for any reason whatsoever, this is what you have got to get into your head. You will be able to kill. Any other person who gets a hold of that weapon of yours can kill with it, too. They can find yours and kill you with it. This is heady knowledge to have, so you must protect yourself.

That safety begins the minute you start looking at them in a store and deciding what you want in a piece. The dealer will not let you handle a loaded one, a stolen one, or a sawed off or modified one. These types are too dangerous. They will, however, educate you to the features of it and will tell you to take a safety course upon the purchase. Take the course.

The lives of others may depend upon how you handle that weapon, as well. How will you store it at home, where there may be children underfoot? How do you keep it away from unsavory characters with ill intent? You lock it up is what you do. Put in a cabinet with a lock and use a trigger guard at all times. Keep everybody nearby safe, okay?

Once you hide it properly, do not forget it and then think it is going to help you out when you pull it out. Old weapons and old ammunition do not work very well sometimes. Neither do out of practice shooters. Use the piece on occasion, in order to keep both of you in practice and in decent shape in case of necessity.

Guns are great tools to have, for hunting and for personal protection. Properly handled, stored, and maintained, they can bring peace of mind as well as put food on the table. But they are made for killing, make no mistake about it. Teat them with the respect they deserve and the safety they demand. Your life may depend on it.

Why Are We So Worried About Guns?

A lot of people wonder why the police forces in some countries don’t carry guns. The answer is usually because that those countries overall do not believe that they will solve crime or even help to prevent it or deter criminals.

Some think that the police force carrying and showing they have weapons will make criminals think twice but the crime statistics don’t always show it as a clear cut case of country with armed police as having a low crime rate. The same countries often allow their citizens to own guns with little stopping them or regulating their use.

Those with small children might feel that they want to shield their child or children from firearms but the sad thing is that they are a part of our day to day lives. They may not be apparent on the street you live on but they will be seen in many forms on the TV or in the news where many places at war are depicted along with their use of weaponry. Kids will often still play cops and robbers despite never being bought a toy gun.

There are alternatives to using weaponry and many think that limiting their uses only to those that really need to have them like the police, army, rangers and the like will be the answer. But other people think they have a right to own their own firearms so they can feel safe and know they aren’t at a disadvantage in any way.

The down side to weapons like these is that they can some times end up in the hands of people who will misuse them or use them for criminal activities, the owner may have not secured it or they may have sold the weapon in order to pay off debts. It could even have been stolen but the intent by the criminal is still there.

Many people assume those regular people with a fire arm won’t look after it but very often they know how to store the gun so only they know where it is and how to access it. Especially if the weapons owner has small children around they will always be careful and hide it away, keeping ammunition separate.

Overall the media can hype up the use of lethal weapons and make the public scared about what can or could happen. But it is not the weapon or firearm that people need to worry about it is the person wielding it that we have to be concerned about.

Selecting The Most Appropriate Survival Kits Can Be Quite A Problematic Business

Though there should not be any need for using survival kits it pays to be safe and get hold of them just to be protected if things go wrong. However, choosing these kits is not as simple as one might expect because there are so many different options to pick and choose from. It is therefore a good idea to find some tips to help you choose the best kit that will help ensure your survival in difficult times.

In order to identify the best survival kits it is first of all necessary that you try and identify the most likely emergency scenario which can put your survival in jeopardy. This means that you need to look at things such as whether you like to go camping or hunting or hiking; if so, you will need to identify possible dangers that can affect you while you are performing these activities.

Another way of picking the right survival kits is to ensure buying only a top-of-the-line kit as only such kits will have all necessary items to ensure your survival. Also, you should learn about where the manufacturer of a survival kit has sourced their items.

This will help you determine whether items such as compasses are mere showpieces or will provide good functionality. You need to also find out for sure that the knives included in the kit are of good quality and must at least have sturdily built handles while the blade needs to be sharp and long.

Also, you must carry your survival kit in the pockets of your trouser or in your jacket and not put it in a backpack because if something bad was to happen to you, it is imperative that you can quickly reach into your pocket and extract the survival kit. Your survival kit must be able to address a few important aspects including those of fire, water, shelter, navigation and signaling.

It will also pay for you to look for certain specific kinds of kits that can help ensure that you survive different kinds of situations. There are in fact a number of kits that have especially been designed to address specific kinds of environments or specific kinds of disasters. You should look at these and then pick one that best suits your particular circumstances.

In many instances, finding the perfect survival kit may not be possible because there won’t be a kit available on the market to fit in with certain kinds of situations. Furthermore, even if you do find a survival kit that addresses your needs it is still not enough. This is because you should, in order to play it even safer, think about buying an extra survival kit so that you also have a backup that can be used if anything really serious happens. In addition, you must always be prepared for the absolute worst.

If you are a person that loves to go camping then you will need to look at different kinds of survival kits which need to address the unique needs of campers and camping in general. On the other hand, you might even wish to buy a survival kit for Father’s Day which is a good time for you to gift your father with one such kit. These kits will of course be more sentimental than practical and they are also chosen to reflect your father’s personality and also his role as a good parent. The choices are many; it all depends on what kind of situation you expect to be facing.

Do you play any sports? Do you go skiing frequently? Even if you’re just at home, it benefits you to own survival kits. Make certain that you own one that contains the items you really need in case of an emergency.

Nightime Fishing Safety

by Captain Jim Onderdonk

Well we always hear the summer time complaints, in July and August, that it’s getting too hot to fish. Most anglers are wanting to get off of the water before lunch! Well I am going to give you an alternative, wade fishing the Baffin Bay at night! Let me tell you, this is one of the best kept secrets. The water temperatures are cooler and the Baffin Big Girls have turned into heartless predators. There is nothing more exciting about hearing a massive blow up, while fishing a top-water at night! I am going to go through the how to, when to and where to, one at a time.

Rule #1 – Do NOT go fishing at night alone! There are too many bad things that can happen at night that are out of your control. Follow these tips to stay safe:

* Check that your night navigation equipment works properly, and that you and/or your fishing buddy know the area well.

* While navigating, wear your P.D.F.’s.

* Be sure to leave a trip plan with someone back home.

* Plan your wade, where you want to start your first wade, to your second or third, you may not ever have to leave your first spot!

HOW: Once you are settled in at the first point, lighting is your next thing to focus on. Your boat should have an anchor light, which you need to turn on now. This alerts other boaters in the area, and acts as a guide for you in the dark. You will also want to pick up some LED headlamps from your local sporting goods store (don’t forget batteries!) to give you hands free light while wade fishing.

A glo-stick is another useful item to have while out on the water. Drape one of these around your neck and let it hang off your back to keep boaters (and hopefully your buddy’s lure) away. In case of an emergency or dead batteries you can also use this as a backup light to make your way back to the boat. Don’t get too far apart from your partner, you need to stay within talking distance at all times.

WHEN: I have had my best luck around a full moon. The moon light helps silhouette your baits, thus making for any easy target for a hungry trout out on the prowl! Try tying a 10 to 12 inch leader to the first snap ring, next to the treble hook. Rig a 1/6th oz jig head with a plum or morning glory colored plastic (dark colors) and tie it on the leader (called Donk’s tangler).

I know what you’re thinking, but just try it and you will be surprised. Work it the same way you would the top water. The fish will hit the soft plastic every time! I like to fish with braided line (Power Pro), it allows you to feel what you can’t see. You will know when you have a hook up!

Solunar tables can be another useful tool. What I try to do is fish two hours before through 2 hours after what the tables call a “major feeding period”. This tends to have the best results for me, but isn’t a guarantee by any means.

WHERE: When pursuing big speckled trout I roam around White & Black Bluff. This has worked well for me in the past and hopefully will help you bring in some big speckled trout as well. TIGHT LINES!

Safely Fishing at Night

by Captain Jim Onderdonk

Well we always hear the summer time complaints, in July and August, that it’s getting too hot to fish. Most anglers are wanting to get off of the water before lunch! Well I am going to give you an alternative, wade fishing the Baffin Bay at night! Let me tell you, this is one of the best kept secrets. The water temperatures are cooler and the Baffin Big Girls have turned into heartless predators. There is nothing more exciting about hearing a massive blow up, while fishing a top-water at night! I am going to go through the how to, when to and where to, one at a time.

There are many bad things that can happen while fishing at night if you aren’t careful. For this reason you should never fish along at night-time. Here are some tips to keep you safe:

* Your fishing partner should be aware of the aware of the area you are fishing in and your surrounds.

* Always wear your life jacket while motoring the boat.

* Be sure to leave a trip plan with someone back home.

* Plan out your trip, including your first several fishing spots.

HOW: When you get to the first fishing spot, anchor up and turn the boat light on. This can keep other watercraft from running into it, as well as giving you a sense of direction while walking around in the dark. Next, you need a LED headlamp to wear. These are a must-have piece of fishing equipment, and are available pretty cheaply in most sporting goods stores.

In addition to the headlamps, get some glow sticks as well. These are the type that activate and light up when you bend/crack/shake them. What you do is tie the glow stick to some string and hang it like a necklace, draping down over your back. This will also help to prevent boaters from coming too close, and keep your fishing partner from hitting you with a lure. Worst case scenario, it can also be a good emergency backup light to get to the boat. While wading, don’t get too far apart.

WHEN: Full moon seems to be the best time for me. The extra light from the moon can really help to illuminate your fishing lure so that those big speckled trout can see them better. One trick I like to do is to tie a 10-12 inch piece of monofilament to the 1st ring and trail a soft plastic lure behind your topwater lure. At the end of the mono you tie on a light jighead (preferably 1/16th oz TruLoc) and then some soft plastic lure. I call this the “Donk Tangler”.

I know what you’re thinking, but just try it and you will be surprised. Work it the same way you would the top water. The fish will hit the soft plastic every time! I like to fish with braided line (Power Pro), it allows you to feel what you can’t see. You will know when you have a hook up!

Major feeding times, according to Solunar tables, are a great time to fish. I use a 5 hour time-frame around what the tables call these prime times. It’s no guarantee but has worked for me in the past.

WHERE: When pursuing big speckled trout I roam around White & Black Bluff. This has worked well for me in the past and hopefully will help you bring in some big speckled trout as well. TIGHT LINES!
