Why Must Campers Bring Along A Marmot Helium Sleeping Bag?

You might have trekked the mountain paths or the thick forests. You might have had to scramble up the rocky mountains. Or may be crossed a fast running stream. At the end of the day, you are dead tired. All you are thinking of now is the cozy warm comforts of your sleeping bag. And you know that you have to get up early the next day for yet another arduous trek ahead no less exciting. The sleeping bag simply becomes your heavenly bliss.

But does the sleeping bag that you have with you give you all that you desire? Of course, a synthetic fill bag is much cheaper than a down fill bag. It is easier to clean a synthetic bag. But it is the insulation that is critical where you are now. It is the ground on which you decide to lay down to sleep decides how much insulation you need. If it is a wooden floor, it is warmer than a cement floor which is cold. A hut or an open space brings in all the chill wind rather than a protected camping tent.

The synthetic bag offers good insulation. The insulation also lasts longer. The down bags offer more warmth than the synthetic fill ones and are best suited for winter. These are also lighter. The down bags are good for taking along on a long expedition. But if the weather is wet, the down fill bags lose their insulation. You must take good care of the down filled bags so that they are not damaged even though they are more durable and long lasting. The synthetic bags are less expensive.

The rectangular sleeping bag is more spacious than the mummy shaped bag. But the insulation of the mummy bags is better than the rectangle bags. While the mummy shaped bags are rolled, tied and packed into a sack, the rectangular bags can be folded and secured using straps or chords. The helium marmot bag is ideal for long treks, particularly up into the mountains.

Choose your sleeping bag keeping the weather, the environment and the duration of your travel. Check whether it is dry or wet climate. You will not regret this.

The Types Of Backpacks

It has become common these days to see people packing things in a backpack. The traveler finds backpack convenient to pack and to carry with ease. Backpack has become very popular amongst travelers. Its ability to allow you to move around with ease is its biggest attraction. The backpack is often kept firm with the use of frames called pack frames. The backpack remains firm and steady on your back. The weight gets distributed uniformly across the backpack. This lightens the strain on your shoulder. The weight is also distributed to the legs and hips.

There are three kinds of backpacks available in the market. There are the ones with internal frame. Backpacks with external frames are also available. Backpacks without any frame at all are more common than these two types. To keep the backpack light, the frames are constructed from poles that are light weight. Aluminum is the most favored metal to make the poles though titanium and scandium alloys too are sometimes used. The frameless backpacks are of course the most common of them all.

The external frame backpacks are favored when one wants a backpack with large capacity. It is also suitable for carrying heavy load. Campers or hikers strap their camping tents, sleeping bags and other camping equipments on to the frame. The frames are rather rigid. This makes the backpack stiff on your back restricting free body movement. The internal frame backpacks are more flexible. The frame combines the use of metal and plastic. The flat bars or stays that make up the frame can be bent to the desired shape. They also adjust to the contour of the body. This is not only comfortable, but also offers you better freedom of movement than the external frame backpacks. The frameless backpack is more popular than others, and is commonly used. It is also cheaper than the backpack with frames. There are, in addition, the large internal-frame backpacks which are specially designed for outdoor activities. These are for carrying heavy loads. They are padded more heavily and are designed to attach to the shoulders and the hips.

The Osprey Argon 85 Backpack is a better organized backpack with a number of pockets. It has a hydration system that provides water to you. Its waist belt eases pressure and the back panel makes it comfortable on your back. The Osprey Packs Argon 85 Backpack is useful for those undertaking long travel. Its design has won it an award.

Backpacks are available in a variety of designs, shapes, colors and sizes. You can choose the one as per your needs. They can also be bought online.

Have Fun Camping With Your Family In An RV

by Bob Baxter

Reflecting on the past we notice that RV camping has been around a very long time. It was enjoyed a lot back then and still is now. Many memorable times can be had by families that take these camping trips year after year.

Some people consider the pioneers to be the first actual RVers that existed. It is hard to say as it has been going on for such a long time. Back then it was not the fun that it is now. They were on a very different mission than the people that go RV camping these days. There was no time for them to have fun.

The values and togetherness that families share now, whether they are alone or in groups is something that seemed to be lost with the hectic lives that we lead. Seeing families reunite and share camping trips together is a beautiful thing. The family unit seems to be getting a bit of lift back to the way it used to be by families that share in these events.

To enjoy an RV camping trip the first thing a person needs is an RV. There are many different types that a person can choose from, and it can be affordable if you take the time to look around. If you are handy at fixing things you may find one that just needs a bit of work.

Other than the actual investment of the trailer the costs can vary from campsite to campsite. There are tons of campgrounds around to choose from though. It all depends on what you are wanting from the campsite on what the cost will be. Hydro sites tend to cost more, but if you look around they too can be found at reasonable rates.

If you are a true camper you may choose to do it the old fashioned way. This means that you will want a campsite without the luxury of hydro. There are still a lot of people that are doing this nowadays, believe it or not. They find it a way to get back to reality and in touch with nature and the things immediately around them. There are still a lot that can be enjoyed even without hydro. Think of the fishing and cooking over an open campfire and the fun that can be had.

There are campsites all over the US and Canada that are beautiful and offer a lot of great things for families to enjoy. There are playgrounds and beaches, boats that can be rented for fishing or just a tour of the lake, the things that are available at many of them are extensive. There is sure to be a site around that will cover all the things you want from a campground. Many even offer special events on holidays as well.

You can find all the information about many campsites on the internet. This can help make your RV camping experience unforgettable. You can see what options they offer and often they have scenic pictures that show what it actually looks like. After making a decision you can book your trip online very easily.

Camping In An RV Is Fun

by Bob Baxter

Looking back in history we see that RV camping has been something enjoyed by many people for a great many years. It is a great way for a family to spend some great quality time together having fun. The memories and stories of these camping trips will be told for years to come.

Many think that the Pioneers could be considered one of the first RVers around. I am not sure how much of this can be agreed with as they had no choice at the time. They were looking for a place to settle and make home after all. I am sure there were enjoyable times, but this was not an optional thing for them like it is for us.

Families are being found in campgrounds more often these days. Many times there are large family groups that are RV camping together in a kind of reunion sort of way. This is a great thing to see as the togetherness of families seems to get left behind over the course of time.

There are so many types of RV’s available that a person can have no trouble at all finding one that will suit their family as well as their budget. Being able to find something affordable is so important during the tough economic times that we are in. This can be one of the least expensive ways that a family can enjoy a vacation for a reasonable price.

Even with the option of hydro, many people still prefer to camp the old style way. They like to cook over the open fire and don’t want the reminders of the way things are at home either. They make it a true get away.

No matter where you live there are a ton of campsites around. The US and Canada have some of the most beautiful ones that a person can see. Many of them offer additional services for families that go RV camping. Whether the beach is what you are after or if you want access to a boat for fishing, there are so many choices that are around that you will find something that will meet your needs and your budget as well. A lot of these campgrounds have things for kids to enjoy, or they host special events on holidays as well.

You can find all the information about many campsites on the internet. This can help make your RV camping experience unforgettable. You can see what options they offer and often they have scenic pictures that show what it actually looks like. After making a decision you can book your trip online very easily.

Automobile Safety – Metal on the Road

by Dewey Finn

Automobiles are wondrous things. There are so many advantages that come with their use, our modern society simply would not have developed in the way that it has were it not for their influence.

But like anything else, there can be problems too.

Travel is essential for most people today, whether it just involves the daily drive to and from work, or using the car for more pleasurable reasons and the roads can be dangerous places.

The problem is, that the human body is rather frail. Automobiles are just not designed for fast speeds and heavy impacts. Our bodies don’t have that much in the way of protection, like an armored exoskeleton for example, but what we do have is our brains – not that some drivers exhibit the use of theirs that much!

Right from the early days of auto history, the automobile’s safe use has been an issue under scrutiny. Perhaps the ideal answer (in theory) was found right back then; to have a man with a red flag walking in front of every car on the roads, but this is hardly a practical option in the modern world.

Rolling Along Safety concerns have to be addressed in a combination of two main ways: the first being, better driving behavior and the second involving advances in technology.

Rollovers are one cause of concern that can affect any vehicle, not only SUV’s and minivans, but there are ways to lessen the likelihood of a rollover occurring, as well as helping to prevent injury should one happen anyway.

Constantly proved by statistics, are the real benefits of wearing safety belts in instances of both collisions and rollovers. In the latter, which we are discussing here, there is a massive 75% decrease in likelihood of fatality in a rollover vehicle’s occupants when these are worn. This is because most deaths in rollovers happen because the unfortunate people are either fully or partially thrown from the vehicle.

So belt up!

Wheels Firmly Grounded Ways of decreasing the chances of a rollover in the first place include making sure that your tires are not overly worn and are properly inflated. Vehicle control can be detrimentally affected by both of these factors, and even a slight slide can lead to more serious trouble if a car leaves the road.

Most rollovers happen in rural localities, where ditches and banks of soil often lurk beyond the edge of the road (which may well not have barriers) so don’t think that it’s cool to put your foot down hard because of the lower traffic levels in such areas.

If you do leave the road though in flatter areas of uneven ground, just reduce speed calmly and pull back onto the road when safe, don’t panic and try to do so too quickly, as sharp turns are not a good idea at speeds found on the highway.

Another thing to consider is load; an overloaded vehicle, especially when a roof rack is employed will affect the automobile characteristics a lot, by heightening the center of gravity, so wisely heed the manufacturer’s recommendations. Proper Tire Inflation and good winter tires tires are essential also. Its all part of your automobile safety equipment .

Technology is helping here, with such as Electronic Stability Control (ESC) to help prevent rollovers, and new side airbag designs which come down from the roof like curtains to protect the head. But aid as these can, the owners and drivers still need to take their part and be responsible in their outlook.

Seeing Stars Naturally, manufacturers must also show appreciable responsibility as well, and to help encourage their enthusiasm over safety concerns, many governments now hold new car design up to much stricter standards than previously applied.

But regulations can be, shall we say, massaged at times. So, market forces are also of major importance in this field, not replacing but assisting government regulation. And in Europe, Japan and elsewhere around the world this is so, with testing regimes in place using the famous crash test dummies which are bristling with electronic sensors.

In the United States, the responsible body is the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and they dish out NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) star ratings, ranging from 1 (the worst) to 5 (the best).

These signify how safe (or not) automobiles are for front impacts (began in 1978) and side crashes (1997), then rollovers (starting in 2001), and more and more consumers are taking note of the results of these government tests, before purchasing a new model.

Though not all vehicles are tested in this scheme, the ones that are, are carefully selected as automobiles which are expected to be high volume sellers, as well as those with new and improved safety equipment or cars that are enhanced redesigns of older models.

So this way the NHTSA try to best cover their bases with available resources, with Federal motor vehicle safety standards relied on to cover the rest of the purchasable cars and trucks.

Another positive thing about this is that the automobiles chosen are bought in the marketplace from dealers in the same way as a citizen would buy theirs, so the auto companies cannot pre-select `special examples’ for the NCAP tests.

Air Matters Knowing you have a safer car can take a load off your mind, but strangely this may lead to more risk taking in some drivers, as in the case of airbags (which are designed to work with safety belts and not instead of them) when they first arrived on the scene.

These were quite controversial a little way back, as some claimed they were more of a hazard themselves than a guard. This controversial claim was hotly disputed amongst the ranks of safety experts and manufacturers, but now the fears have dissipated somewhat as air bags have improved with time. They now inflate with less violence, and so most people polled believe they are of great help in preventing injury, and are themselves safer than they were.

Though even with the latest advanced air bags, it is important to remember that small children (less than 12 years old is the US Government recommendation) can still be badly injured or killed by their operation, and so should always ride in the back seat.

Should You Brake, Steer Or Do Both Together With All Wheel ABS Another question was whether the right course of action to follow when faced with an almost inevitable collision, was to slam on the brakes or quickly turn the steering wheel.

Nowadays this is less of a problem as more automobiles are being fitted with an antilock braking system (ABS) either as factory standard or as an optional extra.

This perhaps is the best welcomed technological safety initiative, which uses sophisticated sensors to measure and control wheel speed, and alter brake pressure to get the best results, and prevent brakes from locking up the wheels which leads to spinning or skidding.

So if you have on these on your rear wheels, then you can do an emergency stop and remain in a straight line; on front and rear wheels, then you can control direction effectively whilst braking hard to further help you steer clear of an impact.

ABS is especially useful in the wet, though having this is no excuse to drive like a maniac and think you will always get away with it.

Another thing to remember is that you do not have to `pump’ the brake pedal when a sudden stop to your automobile’s motion is needed, the electronically controlled valves will do all the work, just keep your foot pressed firmly down. Some drivers take their foot off the brake when they feel a pulsing sensation through the pedal, or hear a vibration-like noise. A perhaps natural reaction to an unexpected circumstance is to stop doing whatever is causing it, but here the driver must `go with the flow’ so to speak, as these noises and pedal responses are quite commonplace when ABS activates itself.

As Safe As The Drivers Are Automobiles are getting safer all the time, but until they drive themselves, we’ll probably still have some problems to deal with (like other drivers, at the very least). In the final analysis, would we really want to own a car that was in charge of us?
